Photography – Using the Wave

I began taking pictures using an SLR camera 30 years ago. My first “great” camera was a Canon Ft that my uncle gave me. It was made in 1971 and took the best pictures ever. Over the years, I bought other single lens reflex cameras with different uses in mind. I had some good photos and some not too good, but had fun taking the pictures and have many fond memories from them. I thought I was doing well with my photography, but realized that I didn’t appear in most of the family photographs. I was always the one managing the cameras. From ensuring the camera was set to the right film ISO, inserting the film, making sure the film was advancing with each picture to having the right focus, depth of field, re-winding the film, taking out the film etc. Even though the camera settings were automatic, I normally ended up taking the pictures. Why? My family members were very reluctant to utilize the single lens reflex camera. This all changed in the late 1990’s when the first commercially available digital cameras were created. We purchased our first digital camera in 2003 and have not looked back.

What a Change from Old School

Intricate expensive cameras and lenses, kinds of movie for unique conditions, chemicals, paper and dark rooms were standard for individuals before digital.

This technology has done away with most of that for the casual photographer.

Digital technology has entirely changed the way we see photography.

Lets look at the benefits and disadvantages (yes, there are a few) of Digital Photography.

Digital images sometimes to not possess the dynamic color ranges that premium color print picture may supply.

Digital cameras are totally dependent on some sort of electrical supply. There are generally rechargeable lithium or regular batteries. Non-digital SLR cameras have a manual mechanical functionality.

The aptitude take a high volume of pictures with digital technology. The memory cards used in cameras today allow for much longer photograph sessions without the requirement for rolls of film.

Photo processing can be carried out by virtually anyone that owns a home computer. Digital images might be stored and printed right from the camera memory card to the hard drive of your own home computer, laptop or even some mobile devices.

Digital photography enables immediate review of the photograph being taken. Subsequent to the shot is finished, you can see the shot and discover if another needs to be taken, or in the event the photograph really should be deleted.

Image noise within the shape of specks will occur in higher end ISO settings in some digital shots.

Believe it or not believe it, smart phones now account for a lot of the digital images made and saved in the World wide web and Social Media. This really is really the wave we are completely riding now and into the future.

The impact of digital photography cannot be understated. The film and photography industry has been irreversibly altered via this technology. Except for particular professional applications, print film and film processing are nearly finished as an enterprise worldwide. Shops that offered film photo processing services or sold film no longer do so or have switched to digital processing. In 2012 Kodak filed for bankruptcy because of its challenges to keep up with the digital technology juggernaut.
